The attached article from the Chicago Tribune - Blank canvas or wasteland? - asks the question of whether it's better to sell your home while you're living there, or should you move out and offer unfettered access. For me, there's no contest.
If you can, definitely move out. Let people come see your home at their leisure- with no appointments, no pressure and no strings or planning required. You'll get more showings, the buyers will be more at ease, and you'll sell it quicker.
But if you do move out, either leave some furniture and accessories behind (if you have the right stuff) or have the house professionally but lightly staged. Empty, it often looks desolate, vulnerable and sad.
In either case, stage it with just enough furniture and accessories to liven it up a bit, define the space and give a sense of how the rooms can work. But don't make it personal. Do your best to make it look and feel like a suite at a good hotel. Spotlessly neat and clean, comfortable and attractive, but with not a clue that anyone had ever occupied that suite before you arrived. Nothing personal.
