For a while now I've been working with a few out of town buyers, and lately some of them are not so sure whether to buy now or wait.
And of course, who wouldn't be confused. And except for my desire to put some cash in the kitty, I can't honestly make a strong case one way or the other. Will the market go up, down or sideways, who knows. People have to decide for themselves, based on their own needs and what they're comfortable with.
But if you too are on the fence about buying now or waiting 'til later, you might want to consider that starting in January the winter selling season begins in the Tucson Foothills. That's when snowbirds and winter visitors arrive, and suddenly every business in town, including real estate agents and people selling their homes, gear up for a big boost in business. It's like Macy's at Christmas.
And there's no getting around it, it'll happen this year too, to some extent at least, even with the mess we're in. Because it'll be freezing cold with snow piled 4 feet high in Chicago and Minneapolis and wet and gloomy in Seattle. And here, the desert will be lush and green and the skies clear and blue, as they lunch on the patio with the temperature hovering at 75.
People get dreamy-eyed and hypnotized by that, and even if they aren't planning to buy a home, they go off and start looking at homes. And thinking, and dreaming and scheming.
And all those added showings and increased sales, from dreamers and buyers alike, tends to make Foothills home sellers and their agents feel a lot more confident, and a lot less flexible. And maybe it won't happen this year, but in the past, some home sellers felt so confident that they raised their prices come January.
As if they were back in Minneapolis, selling snow blowers in a snow storm.
