The following email, warning of this latest scam, comes courtesy of a Shadow Hills resident;
We received an unusual message on our answering machine yesterday from "Michael Turner from UPS delivery". He said that UPS had a package to deliver to us, but we needed to call an 800 number and provide some information to UPS before it could be delivered. When my husband called the number (1-876-429-4727) Turner was insistent he provide him with ID before they would deliver the package. Naturally, he did not get any ID information. Instead we called the sheriff's office who confirmed that this is a scam. A call to the 800 number, which is in Jamaica, results in all kinds of charges on your phone bill. Our phone company agreed to remove the charges.
The rest of the story...this morning Michael Turner called again my husband hung up on him. He immediately called again and when I answered he insisted he had to talk to my husband, that there was a package to deliver, blah, blah blah. I told him the call was a scam and that we would call the police and hung up. He immediately called a third time and angrily said he had to talk to my husband. I told him we had called the police and hung up. He has not called again.
After the fact, I googled the phone number and found that it is from Jamaica. I will remember to do that in the future for suspicious numbers.
So beware of "Michael Turner from UPS delivery".
