The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to alert the public of the latest scam in our area. The suspect claims to be Lt. Brown from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. He tells the victims they have fines for unpaid tickets, outstanding warrants, or missed jury duty that needs to be taken care of immediately. The suspect informs the victims a warrant will be issued for their arrest if they do not make their payments quickly. The victims are told to purchase a Green Dot card for the amount owed and call him to provide the number on the back of the card. The suspect’s phone number returns to a pre-paid cellular out of Casa Grande.
The Sheriff’s Department has received numerous reports about this scam in the last week. Here are a few tips to prevent you from becoming a victim: • Do not give out personal information over the phone
• Contact the Sheriff’s Department to see if someone called you
• The Sheriff’s Department does not collect fines for unpaid tickets If you become a victim of this scam, call 9-1-1 and make a report. -
