A reader wrote in to relay his recent frustrating experience with Zillow’s Zestimates.
“Had an interesting thing happen today that was very odd. Went in and updated our listing on Zillow with a current photo and changed one word in the description ("steam" shower to “spa" shower - do to a recent renovation). on hitting save Zillow came back with the following surprise”:
__________________________________________________________
I wonder if it were described as, “luxurious spa shower”, or, better yet, “spa shower fit for a king & queen”, what’s that worth $$$.
And more tales from the fickle algorithm;
“Zillow has also changed the detail they are providing in their historical Zestimate graph. We had a refi appraisal back in 2010 at $558K (knowing things change) which at the time matched the Zestimate pretty closely. Today that time frame is showing $400K +/-. Previously the Zestimate graph showed a $100K drop in value one day to the next. As you’ve been blogging, Zestimates can be a good starting point, but, they tend to be all over the map”
