Sabino Mountain
6 Sold // $1,310,000 MSP // 36 MDOM // (sold listings expire 10/11/23)
Built from the early to mid 2000's Sabino Mountain homes are popular for their high-up on the mountain location with beautiful mountain and city views and, for the foothills, with homes that are newer than many others in surrounding areas. Sabino Mountain is also popular with many buyers because of the wide range of home sizes, styles and prices that are available. For example, of the 6 homes sold the two lowest priced homes sold for $555,000 & $585,000 while the two highest priced went for $1,775,000 & $2,200,000. And that is not unusual. For recreation and rejuvenation Sabino Mountain is close to the hard to beat combination of Sabino Canyon Recreation Area,Canyon Ranch and Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club.
Ventana Canyon CC
30 Sold // $852,000 MSP // 18 MDOM
Because Townhomes are an essential component of the housing stock in Ventana I have included them both in the For Sale and Sold data.
Yes Ventana CC is home to Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club With two golf courses running thru it, the Mountain and the Canyon Course and exquisite facilities and services for golf, pickleball, tennis, swimming, a spa, dining and more Ventana Canyon CC offers a complete range of services and facilities to compliment your lifestyle.
Alta Vista
12 Sold // $1,512,500 MSP// 8.5 MDOM
The numbers speak for the market in Alta Vista- it's been sizzling hot. Built mostly from the early 1990's to 2016 or so Alta Vista is home to a great many mildly Southwestern style homes, often referred to as Southwest Contemporary. They're southwest but not too southwest, and they're contemporary but not too contemporary. They are what many buyers find to be a comfortable mix of southwest & contemporary. AV is also a good area to find Sante Fe and Mediterranean style homes. Many them perched high up on a ridge with commanding views.
Fairfield
59 Sold // $565,000 MSP // 15 MDOM
Townhomes are also a very essential component of the housing stock in Fairfield - as there are more townhomes than single family in Fairfield and I have included both in the For Sale and Sold data.
Fairfield, a very special place in the Catalina Foothills, offers a mix of small to medium-sized homes on lots that range from 0.15 - 0.75 acres and with most homes built between 1975 and 2000. The homes built from the 1970's up to about 1995 are mostly slump block, concrete block, brick or adobe construction with many of those built in the following years of frame stucco construction. Fairfield is renowned for its charming well kept streets with row after row of tidy and attractive southwestern style homes with the most desirable of them on mountain &/or city view lots.
Catalina Foothills Estates
7 SOLD // $1,175,000 MSP// 30 MDOM
The grand daddy of them all, the original Catalina Foothills Estates, where the first homes were imagined and built in the Catalina Foothills with Catalina Foothills Estates #'s 2, 3, 4 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 to follow.
In 2008 I posted to this blog about the Catalina Foothills Estates titled> Joesler and Murphey, they started it all ...
John Murphey, the founder and developer of the Catalina Foothills Estates, in partnership with the architect Josias Joesler, were visionaries in the development of the Catalina Foothills which, until they came along, was a remote and undeveloped area of grazing cows.
Their vision was to create a lifestyle that would be attractive to wealthy mid-western and eastern families seeking a winter refuge in a desert environment - To become Tucson's first second home owners.
The homes designed by Joesler, while meant to evoke a romantic association with the desert, were often large homes on sprawling hilly lots that were surrounded by the beauty and privacy of the natural desert.
Many of those Joesler's survive to this day, and quite a few have been carefully maintained and renovated to provide modern comforts and conveniences, while maintaining the essence and character of Joesler & Murphey's vision. When they're done right, they're incredibly beautiful.
However many (most really) of the original sprawling hilly lots, which ran from ten to fifteen acres or more, have by now been subdivided and whittled down to nearly the size of your typical new McMansion lot, to make way for more homes.
There's more, lots more, here > Joesler and Murphey, they started it all
The Catalina Foothills Association website also has lots of info on the history of and present day life in the Catalina Foothills.
